PSC Homework

# 1 – HAVE FUN!!
Remember these are kids who want to love the game of soccer!
3 KEY DEVELOPMENT POINTS-
  1. Teach U6 players how to kick a soccer ball properly.
  2. Teach players to dribble the ball and control the ball. Have the soccer ball at the player’s feet as much as possible.
  3. Introduce the 3 v 1 passing drill in a square. This will take time for them to understand, so run it quickly and move on to other drills. 3 v 1 will be covered extensively in U8. (See YouTube video below).
All drills should be short in time (10 minutes max). U6 players have a very short attention span.

# 1 – HAVE FUN!!
Remember these are kids who want to love the game of soccer!
3 KEY DEVELOPMENT POINTS-
  1. Teach U8 players how to control a soccer ball properly to set up a pass or shot.
  2. Teach players to dribble, control, pass and shoot the ball. This age group tends to “bunch up” A LOT! Highly emphasizing passing to their friends (teammates) in a variety of drills is the key to minimizing “the swarm”.
  3. The 3 v 1 passing drill in a square. This will be a refresher from their U6 introduction to this important drill. 3 v 1 should be covered extensively in U8 as this drill holds all the key aspects of both technical and tactical soccer.
U8 players will now begin their understanding of the tactical side of the game of soccer. As mentioned above, 3v1 is a great drill for U8 players to develop passing skills and ball control, however, it also develops tactical skills such as movement off the ball and proper spacing on the field that will lead to a smoother transition to U10 and above. Additional tactical drills to build on top of 3v1 are Rondo (see video) and, 6v2 and 8v3  (see videos below).
Introduction to Goal Keeping begins at U8 as well.

Remember these are kids who want to love the game of soccer!
3 KEY DEVELOPMENT POINTS-
  1. Teach U10-U14 players to tactically understand their roles/positions on the soccer field.
  2. Continue to develop U10-U14 players to dribble, control, pass and shoot the ball however at an accelerated pace.
  3. Development of basic Goal Keeper skills/positioning continues.
U10-U14 is a culmination of all the technical skills (dribbling, ball control, passing, shooting and goal keeping) and the tactical skills (spacing, movement off the ball and positioning) that the players learned from U6 and U8.
U10-U14 players will now learn in more depth, the different roles/ positions on the field and the tactical aspects of defense and offense.
